Thursday: Surviving the Chaos
Lightning streaked across the sky, illuminating the bus and treehouse in stark flashes. The wind lashed at the tarp, threatening to tear it away completely. Hailstones began again, this time smaller but relentless.
Jas held onto the bus’s doorframe as Ivy Mae and Roman scrambled down. “What’s the plan?” Roman asked, his voice strained.
Jas gestured toward the bus. “We hunker down and pray this thing holds.”
Inside, the walls shuddered with each gust, but the structure held. They huddled together, listening to the storm’s fury. “This isn’t normal,” Ivy Mae whispered. “It’s like the weather’s alive.”
Roman’s jaw tightened. “Let’s just get through tonight.”
