Friday: “Run!” Roman shouted
By dawn, the group was exhausted but determined to keep moving. They followed the trail until they came across a clearing—and froze.
Before them stood the burned-out remnants of another structure. It wasn’t the Airbnb, but it looked eerily similar: a small cabin, charred and crumbling.
“What is this place?” Ivy Mae whispered.
Jas stepped forward, their eyes narrowing. “Look.”
Near the edge of the clearing was a partially buried sign. Roman brushed away the dirt to reveal faded letters: “Research Station #4.”
“What were they researching?” Ivy Mae asked, her voice filled with unease.
Before anyone could answer, a loud crack split the air. The ground beneath them shook violently, and a tree toppled over, narrowly missing Jas.
“Run!” Roman shouted, grabbing Ivy Mae’s arm.
As they fled the clearing, a faint humming sound began to rise from the direction of the research station, growing louder and louder until it was almost deafening.
“What is that?” Jas yelled over the noise.
But no one had an answer as they ran deeper into the woods, the humming following them like a ghostly echo.
