The Fireworks Surprise

 Monday: The Fireworks Surprise

The peaceful morning was shattered by an explosion of light. Fireworks-like sparks shot out of the stump Miracle had been digging around. Ivy Mae stumbled backward, clutching the notebook, while Roman shielded his eyes from the bright flashes.

“What the heck is that?” Jas yelled, staggering to his feet.

Sleepy Z darted to the corner of the porch, his fur puffed up like a bristling hedgehog. Miracle barked furiously at the stump, his tail wagging nervously.

Ivy Mae squinted, noticing something odd glinting inside the stump. “It’s… it’s not natural,” she said, pointing. “Look—there’s some kind of circuitry in there.”

Roman peered closer, careful to keep his distance. “This whole thing is wired! No wonder it’s surging.”

“Why would someone wire a stump?” Jas asked, wincing as another spark flew out.

“I don’t know, but we need to move fast,” Roman said, backing away. “If this keeps up, it’s going to start a fire.”
