Wednesday: Trekking Through the Unknown
The group moved as quickly as they could, the weight of their supplies slowing them down. Jas stumbled once, but Roman caught him, helping him steady.
“Thanks,” Jas muttered, his face pale.
“Don’t push yourself too hard,” Ivy Mae said, glancing back to check on them.
They followed a faint trail winding through the woods. The air was cooler here, shaded by towering trees, but the smell of smoke still lingered behind them.
“Do you think the fire will spread?” Jas asked, his voice shaky.
“I hope not,” Roman replied. “But if it does, we’ll be far enough away.”
As the day wore on, they found a small clearing and stopped to rest. Ivy Mae handed out water and energy bars while Miracle flopped onto the ground, panting. Sleepy Z curled up on a blanket, his tail twitching.
“We’ll find somewhere safer soon,” Ivy Mae said, trying to reassure them.
But even as she spoke, a sense of unease settled over the group.
