Thursday: A Day of Peace
The warm waters continued to soothe their aching muscles, and as the day drew to a close, they found a comfortable spot by the water to set up camp for the night. The fire crackled softly, and they cooked what little food they had left, savoring the simple pleasure of a meal.
“This is the closest to normal I’ve felt in days,” Roman said as he handed a portion of the food to Jas. “Maybe too normal.”
Jas laughed weakly, their face still pale from the exhaustion, but their spirits had lifted.
“It’s like we’re in some kind of parallel world,” Ivy Mae added, poking the fire with a stick. “Everything feels so… calm. But we know it’s temporary.”
They sat in silence for a while, staring into the fire. The stars above shone brightly, clearer than they’d seen them in weeks. It was a beautiful, peaceful night, and for a moment, they allowed themselves to believe that maybe, just maybe, they could find a way to survive this journey.
