Monday:
The group decides to follow the river north, where they believe they might find more survivors. Along the way, they see signs of nature reclaiming its space: beavers rebuilding their lodges, otters playing in the water, and eagles circling above.
They pass another broken dam, its remnants covered in moss. Ivy Mae stops to read a plaque: “Dedicated to Progress and Innovation, 1964.” She shakes her head. “Progress for who?”
Roman studies the ruins. “Not for the salmon. Not for the people who lived off this river for thousands of years.”
