Saturday:
As dawn breaks, they climb down to the beach, the tide washing over their boots. The sand is filled with shells, seaweed, and driftwood. Roman picks up a piece of wood and studies its texture.
“This would make a good carving,” he says, running his fingers over its grain. “Something to remember this place by.”
Jas finds a feather from a pelican and tucks it into their bag. “I think I’ll keep this. A reminder that even when things fall apart, there’s still beauty.”
Ivy Mae smiles at them both. “Let’s keep moving. We’ve got a lot more to see.”
