Monday: Following the Map
The journey north begins with a sense of optimism. The group follows the faded map through dense forests, where sunlight filters through the thinning ash. The air grows cleaner, and birdsong returns—a stark contrast to the silence they’ve grown used to.
At a riverbank, they pause to refill their water and rest. Ivy Mae points to a pile of fish scales and a hand-carved spear tip.
“Someone’s been here,” she says.
As they continue, they notice peculiar signs: ropes strung between trees as markers, a weathered doll tied to a branch, and a makeshift scarecrow wearing a gas mask.
“Is this a warning or a welcome?” Roman mutters.
Tuesday: A Hidden Sanctuary
By midday, the faint hum of voices reaches their ears. Peering over a ridge, they find a hidden valley teeming with life. The community below is bustling—gardens, tents, and laughter fill the air.
As they descend, the dog bristles, growling softly. Roman kneels beside it, trying to calm the animal. “What’s wrong, buddy?”
Nearby, Jas notices a circle of stones etched with strange symbols. Ivy Mae sketches them quickly, uneasy but curious.
When they finally reach the outskirts of the settlement, they’re intercepted by guards armed with handmade weapons.
Wednesday: First Contact
The guards are tense, their eyes scanning for threats. Elena, their leader, steps forward, her piercing gaze locking onto Jas.
“Who are you, and why are you here?”
Jas explains their journey and mentions Alex. Elena’s suspicion softens slightly, but she remains guarded.
As they’re led into the village, the group notices odd details—dreamcatchers hanging from every tent, jars filled with glowing insects, and a shrine made of ash-covered bones.
“That’s... different,” Ivy Mae whispers.
The villagers welcome them cautiously, offering food and water. Roman, ever observant, notices the villagers avoid a large, decrepit building at the edge of the camp.
“What’s in there?” he asks.
Elena’s face hardens. “That’s none of your concern.”
Thursday: Reuniting with Alex
The reunion with Alex is a bright moment in the midst of tension. Jas spots them near the central fire and runs to embrace them.
“I thought I’d never see you again,” Alex says, tears streaming down their face.
As they share their stories, Alex reveals the struggles of the community: dwindling resources, strange illnesses, and the eerie phenomena that plague the area.
“People disappear sometimes,” Alex admits. “No one talks about it, but it’s like the forest takes them.”
Friday: A New Beginning
The group integrates into the community, using their skills to help. Roman repairs a broken water pump, Ivy Mae teaches villagers about herbal medicine, and Jas assists Alex with radio communications.
But the sense of unease lingers. Villagers whisper about “The Watchers,” shadowy figures seen at the forest’s edge. Ivy Mae catches glimpses of strange lights flickering in the trees.
One night, a villager named Marlo vanishes. A search party finds only his boots, neatly placed by the riverbank.
The council gathers, their faces grim. Elena addresses the group. “We need answers. Whatever’s out there, it’s not just nature reclaiming the land.”
The Strange and the Supernatural
The group must now confront not only the challenges of survival but also the mysteries and dangers surrounding the community. Is the sanctuary truly safe, or does it harbor deeper threats?
